About the Church

The Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour is located in Cinnamon Gardens (Colombo 07) a suburb of Colombo, Sri Lanka. It is the primary Anglican Cathedral, affiliated to the Church of Ceylon. Rt. Revd. Dushantha Rodrigo who was installed as the 16th Bishop of Colombo in 2020 is presently the presiding Bishop of the Church of Ceylon.

The Cathedral itself is just over forty years old with a worshipping community that comprises people from different walks of life.

The foundation stone for The Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour was laid on 28th of October 1968, during the Episcopate of Bishop Harold De Soysa, the first Sri Lankan Bishop of Colombo. On 7th of November 1973, a service was held for the consecration of The Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour. Rev. Cyril Abeynaike was appointed as the first Bishop.

The Cathedral was named, the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour, placing special emphasis on the word 'living' meaning that the Saviour is a Living Saviour and ever present among us.

We welcome people of all traditions to join us in Worship.
